CSFont's Alternate Universe & Arbitrarium: Contests and Quizzes
CONCEPT
When a Guess the Theme Contest is held, the objective is to determine the theme that the songs in a set share.
Example 1
- Mekons / The Flame That Killed John Wayne
- The Mr T Experience / Danny Partridge
- REM / Monty Got a Raw Deal
- Yo La Tengo (or The Kinks, originally) / Oklahoma, USA
The theme is FILM & TV STARS or ACTORS.
Example 2
- Patty Larkin / Dodge Dart
- The Blasters / Long White Cadillac
- Phranc / '64 Ford
The theme is CARS or AUTOMOBILES.
RULES
- Guesses must be made in Chat.
- Guesses may be made at any time after the first song in the set begins playing.
- Guesses must be in the form "My guess [your guess number]: [your guess goes here]" -- examples would be "My guess 1: secret identities" / "My guess 2: superheroes" / "My guess 3: Batman"
- No more than three (3) guesses per song set per contestant.
- The first contestant to guess a theme correctly is the winner of that particular theme, and receives up to one point towards his or her total points. For particularly original and applicable interpretations of themes, additional or partial points may be granted, but no more than one point will be received to any contestant for a single theme.
- If no correct guesses are received, hints may be given. If guesses are exhausted by the time a filler song ends, the contest moves on.
- At the end of the contest, the person with the most total points is the winner.
- Ambiguity, partial answer credit, unexpected but applicable themes, and some responses being more correct than others, are subject to the interpretation of the contest judge (generally the DJ).
PRIZES
A prize or prizes, if awarded, will be announced prior to, or during, the contest. Prizes may include:
- Minions Bonus Pack
- Gold Membership
- A subset of Forum Icons
- The ability to program a number of song selections for a future CC Radio show. Songs must exist in the DJ's library.
VARIATIONS
Guess the Musical Reference
- A song is played that refers to one or more other musician(s)/band(s). Correctly name one of these bands (use a more complete name -- "Elvis Presley," not just "Elvis"). In the case where a reference is in the song title, name a /different/ reference in the song, if one exists.
Guess the Song/Artist
- An untagged excerpt of a song is played. Correctly name the song and/or artist.
